Mechanical Seal Wear
Cause: Mechanical seals are the most commonly used sealing method in horizontal centrifugal pumps. During long-term operation, due to pump shaft vibration, axial force fluctuations, or abrasion by particles within the pump body, the seal surface will gradually wear, leading to leakage.
Solution: Regularly check the mechanical seal for wear, select wear-resistant materials (such as silicon carbide or ceramic), maintain lubrication of the seal surface, ensure the pump operates within the designed operating conditions, and replace the seal if necessary.
Pump Shaft Eccentricity or Bearing Damage
Cause: Pump shaft eccentricity or bearing damage can increase radial and axial displacement of the shaft, resulting in uneven force on the seal end face and causing leakage.
Solution: Regularly check the pump shaft straightness and bearing condition, promptly replace worn bearings, and realign the shaft concentricity if necessary to ensure even force on the seal end face.
Abnormal Pump Liquid Temperature and Pressure
Cause: Excessively high liquid temperature can cause thermal expansion or softening of the seal, while excessive pressure can exceed the seal's design capacity, leading to seal leakage.
Solution: Control the pump's operating temperature and pressure, install a cooling system or pressure regulator, and select sealing materials that are resistant to high temperatures and high pressures.
Media Corrosion and Particle Wear
Cause: Chemically corrosive liquids or media containing solid particles can corrode the sealing surface or wear the sealing ring, resulting in reduced sealing performance.
Solution: Select corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant sealing materials based on the media properties, install a filter to remove particles, and regularly clean the pump body and sealing surfaces.
Improper Installation or Irregular Maintenance
Cause: Seal installation deviation, uneven tightening force, or long-term lack of maintenance can lead to leakage.
Solution: Strictly follow the manufacturer's installation specifications, ensure the seal is correctly level, vertical, and concentric, and perform regular maintenance and lubrication.
